The exhibition "Recreating Gesture: The Replica of a Gold Necklace from the Iron Age" results from a collaborative research project which centers on one remarkable piece: the Torque de Montans, a gold Celtic neck collar dating from around the 3rd century BC and discovered in France.
The exhibition reveals the complexity and subtle artistry of ancient Celtic goldsmithing. With an approach of experimental archeology — understanding the skills and techniques of a given period by reproducing the object studied — there are mysteries that archives alone could not solve, but which the artisans' gestures, transmitted across cultures and centuries, may ultimately reveal.
